Seven artworks from museums and churches in the crater area of the recent earthquake

5 March - 5 November 2017
Rocca Albornoziana - Museo Nazionale del Ducato di Spoleto

“Ospiti in Rocca” (“Guests in the Fortress”) showcases seven artworks from museums and churches in the crater area (Marche, Lazio, Umbria), “witnesses” to a common cultural language, a guiding thread between territories, populations and generations. These guests symbolize the cultural ‘memory’ and identity of the area hit by the recent earthquake, with a wealth of historical and artistic connections.

The exhibition includes selected works of various kinds, all of them with an outstanding symbolical meaning; mention should be made in particular of the 16th century wooden Crucifix from the Church of Sant’Anatolia di Narco, the 16th century “Madonna and Child” from Avendita and the Annunciation group by Andrea della Robbia from the Museo della Castellina in Norcia, as well as the refined painted table by Nicola di Ulisse da Siena “Madonna and Child” from the Museo Diocesano in Ascoli Piceno and the refined “San Sebastiano” dating to the second half of the 17th century from Scai, in the Amatrice area.

The exhibition is closely linked to the crowdfunding campaign which started on February 1st this year, as part of the Lightquake artistic project designed by MiBACT, Museo Nazionale del Ducato di Spoleto in partnership with Municipality of Spoleto, Milan Polytechnic – School of Design, Rocca Albornoziana Association and Perugia Chamber of Commerce. This campaign has been enabled on the specialised platform STARTEED.

The funds collected with the donations will be paid into the current account of the Rocca Albornoziana di Spoleto Association (created by Umbria Regional Government, MiBACT and Municipality of Spoleto) whose aim is to enhance the Fortress; at the end of the fund raising project the money will all be transferred to the organisations owning the artworks involved to support their restoration, after receiving the green light from the Soprintendenza departments in charge.
